Noah lived nine-fifty years.
Adam lived nine-hundred-thirty.
But perhaps the point the Bible makes
is death’s eventuality.
One-hundred-one is a great old age
outside a Bible chart.
But a man could live one hundred thousand
and only feel a part.
Some men seem to do all things well
with fiery minds and solid nerve
Those you trust as doctors and leaders
At a level we barely observe.
Some men have a kind souls earned
from a life that isn’t fair.
Old farmers, teachers, miners, preachers.
They’re hidden everywhere.
Kind souls and fiery minds
rarely both belong,
and those who have them both
aren’t with us very long.
But the greatest death a man can have,
the way to leave this Earth
is that nothing’s changed when he goes-
we’re lost no more of worth:
That he’s done his part,
he’s said his piece,
he’s learned to love man freely,
he’s won his fight,
he’s touched the world,
he’s lived his life completely.
